Surf Lifesavers are men and women who volunteer their time to provide aquatic supervision all over Australia's coastal environment.

Currently Surf Life Saving Queensland has over 8500 active lifesavers who patrol the beach every weekend through affiliated community based volunteer clubs.

Red and Yellow Caps

All volunteer surf lifesavers wear the internationally recognised red and yellow patrol uniform (yellow long-sleeved shirt, red shorts and red swimming costume) and are distinct by wearing the red and yellow quartered cap.

Qualifications

Surf lifesavers hold the minimum requirement of a Bronze Medallion. The Bronze Medallion teaches a range of activities in order to be able to perform all the basic requirements of a lifesaver.

Lifesavers are also trained in many Powercraft and emergency care awards which assist with their patrolling operations.

Rescue Equipment

Surf lifesaving personnel utilise a wide variety of equipment to assist in patrolling the beaches of Queensland. Rescue equipment comes in many different forms and are designed to accommodate difficult surf environments, and its many hazards. These consist of:

• Rescue Tube
• First Aid / Medical equipment
• Oxygen Equipment
• Rescue Board
• Inflatable Rescue Boat
• Jet Ski's
• All Terrain Vehicles
