Alexandra Headland Surf Life Saving Club, founded in 1924 is a proud traditional, family club. It's origins can be traced back to group of young Woombye men in Mooloolaba SLSC, who were asked to assist in forming a Surf Club at Alexandra Headland. Upon the official formation of the club at a public meeting at Woombye School of Arts, Mr Evan Eyre McNall was elected president. He held this position for a dedicated thirty years. Volunteers then proceeded to contribute their weekends to build a 2.5 by 5-metre clubhouse at cost of 10 pounds. The clubhouse stands in the same position as the original. The next challenge was to buy lifesaving equipment. A reel and line was bought at a higher cost then the clubhouse (13 pounds). As the members were from Woombye it seemed appropriate to adopt the Woombye Rugby League colours of a black stripe and gold background which symbolises a black snake and the golden wattle. Alexandra Headland SLSC is a community-orientated volunteer service, and relies mainly on fundraising to support the club with equipment for its active members. The primary concern of Alex lifesavers is for safety for those who swim in the surf on the beautiful Alexandra Headland beach. Over the past 80 years not one life has been lost between the flags at Alexandra Headland beach.
