Camp Commando ‘Bush Bash’ 2018

Applications are now open for Participants, Leaders and Mentors for the 2018 Surf Life Saving Sunshine Coast Youth Development Program – Camp Commando.

The program will be held 16th – 18th January 2018 inclusive at QCCC MAPLETON.

Please note that Leaders and Mentors will be required onsite an additional half day and night for the program briefing Monday, 15th January. All meals and accommodation are provided. All Leaders and Mentors are responsible for their own transport to Camp Commando.

The program will concentrate on team-building skills, lifesaving knowledge, providing information on opportunities and pathways both within and outside of lifesaving, and networking with members from other clubs.

Ideally we encourage all clubs to identify and nominate at least 5 participants and 1 -2 leaders or mentors to the program. Clubs are certainly encouraged to nominate more than 5 participants.

 

WHO CAN ATTEND?

Participants
Members who are in the Under 14 and Under 15 age groups who are registered financial members of a Sunshine Coast Surf Life Saving Club are invited to apply.
It is desirable that participants have completed their Surf Rescue Certificate, however this is not mandatory.

Leaders
Program leaders will be appointed to facilitate activities, encourage participation and foster the personal development of the participants. The leader positions are open to members that are 17 years and over, who are registered financial members of a Sunshine Coast Surf Life Saving Club.
Leaders must hold a proficient SLSA Bronze Medallion and a current Working with Children Blue Card (for those over 18). Leaders would have preferably participated in a previous Branch or State Leadership Camp (desirable not mandatory).

Mentors
Program mentors will be appointed to mentor and foster the personal development of the leaders as well as contribute to the supervision of participants. The mentor positions are open to members that are 18 years and over, who are registered financial members of a Sunshine Coast Surf Life Saving Club.

Mentors must hold a proficient SLSA Bronze Medallion and a current Working with Children Blue Card. Mentors would have preferably participated in a previous Branch or State Leadership Camp in a leadership role (desirable but not mandatory).

Applications for all Participants, Leaders and Mentors close 9am Monday 6th November 2017.

FEES
• Participants $250.00 + GST
• Leaders and Mentors $185.00 + GST
This registration fee includes all meals, accommodation, program activities, program resources and Camp Commando memorabilia.
The Sunshine Coast Branch will invoice Clubs for the total cost of all Participants, Leaders and Mentors from that club, who are accepted to attend.

PLEASE NOTE: Completing the application does not confirm acceptance to the development program. Members are encouraged to discuss attendance at the program with your club’s Youth Development Officer as all nominations will be sent to clubs for endorsement. In addition, payment for attendance will be the responsibility of the participant/leader via the club unless other arrangements are in place within your club to fund member attendance.
Any applicant that withdraws from the camp after being selected will not receive a refund; however the Club may be able to nominate an alternative participant.

All Participants, Leaders and Mentors are responsible for their own transport to and from Camp Commando.
